But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect, 1 Peter 3:15

Universe and Multiverses

I will have to get Hawking's new book and read it thoroughly, but based on the press releases and comments, it appears as though he will offer up a new version of the anthropic principle, specifically the strong anthropic principle. That is the idea that we are hear simply because there were enough universes started that one finally came into existence that had the right conditions for life. Hence the term multiverses. But, the problem is, there is no scientific evidence for multiverses. In the atheist cosmologist's mind, they must exist because they have to, not because there is any evidence for them. Theoretical mathematical evidence doesn't count- remember that mathematics is analytic, a priori knowledge, and scientific knowledge is synthetic, a posteriori knowledge. It is possible to write fairy tales that are mathematically correct- 2 unicorns + 2 unicorns= 4 unicorns, the math works but that doesn't mean a unicorn ever existed. Hawking has done this before, using imaginary numbers for the time variable in Einstein's equations. It is curious that people want to believe in string theory when no one has ever encountered anything physically like that, dark matter that we have never run into during space expeditions, and multiverses that have no evidence for their existence, but not in God who has manifested Himself in time and space in Jesus Christ, the Incarnate Second Person of the Trinity, whom people saw and talked to and walked with. It makes one wonder what really counts as evidence, and what are the reasons that people will believe in mathematical fairy tales?

Bible, Books and Bones

Hello- this site is open for questions and discussions about theology, philosophy, and, if anybody wants it-orthopedic questions. I am an orthopedic surgeon, and an ordained minister in the Church of the Brethren. I am interested in evangelism, discipleship, and apologetics. Professionally, I do a lot of trauma, total joints, arthroscopy and sports medicine, and general orthopedics, (carpal tunnel and rotator cuff surgery). I live in Lancaster County PA, with my beautiful and amazing wife Gail, and my smart and lively stepdaughter Sierra. I am looking forward to many great discussions on this blog site, all leading to results that glorify God- jim
